Ragsdill

Well since the weather has been kinda crapy all weekend I thought I would cheer y'all up with some pictures from when it was nice.
Sometimes I have noted to people how the neighbourhood feel in Winnipeg is so different from what I'm used to in Germany. For example in Germany I can probably tell you who lives in 90percent of the houses on my street. You can't really walk around the neighbourhood without running into people and stopping to talk. Yet here I have lived in the same house for 5 years now and still only know like 3 people on my street. I'm still thinking that part of it is cultural but part of it definitly has to do with the weather. And the reason why I have never seen people come out of their houses and spend time outside all these years is cause most of the time I leave when there is still  snow and come back in fall when its just about to snow again. So its actually been quite the experience for me to see people swarm out as soon as it got warm.

Despite of people being outside and mingeling with their neighbours, not many people greeted me, in fact only two. One was a mere being aknowledged by a lady, probably due to the fact that I just kept looking at her as I walked by,  so there was no escaping. The other one as a pretty forward hello by an older man, it came with an tone and look saying "what are you doing here looking rround so curious", I felt like I as judged as somebody who is checking out the area so that I can come break in at night.

House number 55 ahm I mean yard number 55
Where is the house?

gateway community center form the back
lost house
This isn't a very good picture, but when alking up to this house the first thing it reminded me of was what a think of as typical charleswood houses, like a longer square with a, pointy roof, an unattached garage and a ditch between the street adn the front yard. So yep not sure how this house sneaked it's way into North Kildonan

getting dark
As mentioned before I saw a wide variety of people on the walk one couple I cam across was an east Indian couple. He was wearing athletic wear shorts and a shirt like the all North American guy, yet she was dressed in East Indian traditional clothing, I thought that was interesting. What was entertaining though was that her clothing kept making clinky sounds as she was walking which made me think of jingle bells as well as this video.

May 12

Starting close to home base.  (before)

Cornerstone Estate

Never knew these existed, the are building a second one.
This reminded me of an article I read the other day in regards to growing Winnipeg and the dilema between expanding the city or building denser, which means more high rise buildings and condos.
Anyways I wonder how this area of the city will look in a couple of years, i'll probably have to go back to walk some new streets.
Amen!
I often wonder how many people read church billboards and what an impact they make. It might just be the right verse at the right time for someone out there. Also I love the Canada Flag.

Faith Covenant Refromed Church
Popko Crescent
New street my map didn't even know yet. What always amazes me how they manage to built houses with little to no windows on up to two sides of the house. I understand that you might not get any sun cause the hauses next to you are blocking it but you will still get some light.

So much yard and no fence, I like it!

Ultimate sports cuts
So there is a little strip mall arising at the east end of knowles, most of the stores are unfinished, i walked by and just looked in all the windows. This one honestly juding by what you see thru the window should be a river city sports, it took me quite a while to figure out that they cut hair. It seemly like if you want to get the same hair cut as your favourite athlete this is the place to go. Didn't know such a place even existed.

More Condos

Cindy Klassen Way

Didn't know she had a street named after her. Also I like that it's a way, not many ways in Winnipeg.

Playground

Pond

The Cube
 The Rebell house, it's suqare.

The Idea behind it....

A lot of people don't like Winnipeg, or at least don't know that they actually do. One of the questions I get asked the most is "Why Winnipeg?" and I have many reasons, a lot of them have to do with comminity and friends but I do find there is a true beauty to Winnipeg you just have to look.
One of my favourite Blogs is called WinnipegLoveHate. If you wanna check it out.
http://www.winnipeglovehate.com/
It's basically a photographer taking photos of the city and most of them I look at and am going "this is pretty where the heck was this taken, I have never seen this before."
I'm currently enroled in a Professional driver course and am spnding my days cruising around town in an 18 Wheeler and am constantly discovering new areas.
So it's been on my mind for a while now that I wannt to explore Winnipeg more, but I have never done anything about it. Like where do you start,it seems like such an overwhelming task. Well I have decided to approach it systematically so on Saturday I went out and bought a Map.
So I'm hoping to systematically walk Winnipeg whenever I get a chance. I realize that this might be a lifetime project, but Toby Mac would say "If you gotta start somewhere why not here if you got sometime why not now".
So yep that's what this blog is all about.
